Improve driver safety

Driving a taxi can be a risky profession, with assault and other crimes a reasonably common experience. In order to make the drivers work environment as safe as possible, many taxi operators are now installing in-vehicle surveillance cameras.

The SnapShot camera is a proven surveillance system, whose superior image quality has supported taxi companies and drivers in court proceedings. Just like an insurance policy, the SnapShot camera works when it is needed. While it may not prevent every assault, the camera makes it simpler to identify the offender and may lead them to think twice before they act.

Visible deterrent

The SnapShot camera is installed above the rear view mirror, a clear deterrent for would-be attackers and petty fare-evaders. Kab Kontrol also provides clear signage on the vehicle that passengers will be photographed during the journey.

Image Quality

The SnapShot camera takes clear images of the interior of the vehicle in either night or day. This is due to the combination of an infrared camera with an 105° wide angle lens, special light filters, additional infrared lighting (optional) in conjunction with an auto electric shutter mechanism.

Over 1,000 images are stored in a custom designed, DSP controlled, solid-state, non-volatile memory unit, concealed in the vehicle.

Camera Configuration

Camera activation sequences can be tailored to suit company requirements.

A typical image trigger sequence is:

Door opens – 10 images taken at 1 second intervals
Door closes – 10 images taken at 1 second intervals
Meter turned on – 1 image taken per minute
Alarm activation takes 1 image per second until the memory unit is full.

The driver has the ability to take additional images as required, or to activate an alarm triggering the camera to take a sequence of images. These images are then locked from being over-written and can only be unlocked at the download facility.

In normal circumstances the driver doesn’t have to do anything. The SnapShot camera automatically takes images and the storage unit simply records over the oldest images once it has reached its capacity

Image Integrity

Each image is stamped with the date, time, vehicle’s registration or fleet number, the trigger type and even the GPS co-ordinates of the vehicle (optional).

This data is then encrypted to avoid tampering and to protect passengers’ privacy.

Images are stored securely and can only be retrieved using a proprietary Windows® based software package.

This software ensures images are only accessible by authorized personnel to protect passengers’privacy and minimize the possibility for image tampering.

Non-volatile Flash memory ensures that images are stored indefinitely, even if the power       ….connection to the vehicle’s battery is lost.
